Ivan Bessonov from the village of Solchino in the Pichaevsky District is 22 years old. He managed to grow watermelons that weigh more than 15 kilograms. Ivan crosses watermelons and melons of different varieties with pumpkins, which makes them tastier and more aromatic. They also break records for size. This was reported by the online publication Pichaevsky Vestnik .

Ivan has been interested in this topic since early childhood. He saw a video on the Internet about crossing melon crops and was inspired by the idea of doing all this on his own plot.

— The first time I planted just a few roots to try. The result surprised and pleased shareholder database our entire family, so next year I decided to increase the number of varieties and the planting area, — Ivan Bessonov recalls his first experience.

Pichaevsky's "Michurin" allocates most of the area used for watermelons. This crop, compared to melons, is less capricious.

— I grow small sprouts of lagenaria or other pumpkins and watermelons from seeds. I make small cuts and carefully connect them. I graft a watermelon stem onto the pumpkin root and secure the grafting site with a clip. In about ten days, they grow together. This is how a hybrid of a new plant is obtained. As a rule, I use cups for seedlings, but you can also graft in open ground. However, in this case, the seedlings will definitely have to be covered, because the weather in spring is especially capricious, — the plant grower shares his secrets.
